Bailout.

What are your thoughts on the economic crisis? Should there be a bailout by the government? If the bailout is not passed, what do you think is going to happen? Why are these corporations failing?
I watch the news every morning. So, I have known about this crisis for a few weeks. I don't really understand it, so I'm not sure what the answer is to the problem. I don't understand how a large company like that could go that much into debt, and need that much money. From what I hear on the news, the bailout is a good idea. If the money is not given to them, the country could be in big trouble. I don't think its fair that tax payers should help pay their debt, though. I just don't really know what should be done about the problem. They should have never put their selves in this situation in the first place.

Weekend.

What all did you do this past weekend? Go to the game in Moultrie? Go to church? etc.
My weekend was crazy! Friday, after school I hung out with my friends. Then, I had to go to work. :( I got off of work and went to meet Laken, and we spent the night with our friends. Saturday, me and Lake woke up at 7 and ate breakfast at Holt's. It was good! Then we just sat around all day, and I had to go to work again. After work, the drama started, which I hate. We lost a best friend. Oh well. She was being dumb. Sunday, I had to work. That's about it. I did not get a chance to go to the game. We won, though. Which is great. I was kind of worried, because I heard the coach from the other team was really good. In the end, we were the best. =]

Sleep.

How late do you typically stay up? Can you tell a difference in your school work when you go to bed early or stay up extremely late? Explain.
I usually go to sleep around 11 or later. I can't go to sleep any earlier, because I usually take a nap when I get home from school. This week, I've been really busy. Laken has had softball games, I've had to take my car to the shop. I have just had many things to do after school, so I've been going to sleep a lot earlier. I don't really notice a difference in my school work if I go to sleep early. I work just as hard as I would when I go to sleep early.

Army Representatives.

How did yesterday's Army representatives influence your future choices? Are you now contemplating an army career after high school?
I really enjoyed the Army representatives speaking to the class yesterday. The first speaker, Prince, was very cool. She acted like most of us. She explained everything so well, and was very persuasive. The youngest, Brandi, was also very cool. I think most people in the class related to her more, because she was closer to our age than the others. She had just finished basic training, and explained what it all consisted of. The oldest, Sgt. Dupree, had the biggest affect, I think. He made me realize that this was my senior year and I didn't have much time to prepare myself for college. After listening to him speak, I was ready to get everything ready for my future. I don't think I am going to pursue an army career, even though it sounded pretty great.

Drinking Age.

Channel One has recently been talking about the push by some to change the legal drinking age. Should it be changed from 21 to 18? Why or why not? Pros and cons to the change?
I'm not really sure what the drinking age should be. I don't think it should be lowered. Young adults should not be drinking alcohol in the first place. But, people who are younger than 21 usually have no problem getting alcohol anyway. Most people who want alcohol have some sort of source to get it. I think it should stay at 21. People will just have to be patient and wait it out. Then, they will have something to look forward to when they turn 21.

Right Track

"Even if you are not on the right track, you will get run over if you just sit there."
What does this quote mean to you?
If you're not doing good, you should never give up. You should always keep going until you reach your goals.

Speaker

What was your overall impression of the speaker? Did you enjoy the presentation? Do you think the speaker's presentation will aid you in your post secondary (college, tech, trade school, military, etc.) and career choices? What didn't you like about the presentation? Should Ms. Gay continue having speakers come into our class?
I really enjoyed having a speaker from a college. She was very nice and told us many things we needed to know about college. She prepared us for after high school. She let us know about life after high school. I now know what I need to know about college. I think I am more prepared now. I think Ms. Gay should have speakers more often.

Being Followed.

How would you handle being constantly followed by someone? Would you welcome or resent the protection? Write describing your thoughts.
I am not sure how I would feel with people following me around all the time. I would appreciate the security. I know I would get aggravated easily. Secret Service seems like they would get annoying. They never leave you alone. A person needs time to theirselves. I don't like being followed.

Amazing Animals

I think it is so awesome that an owner's dog was able to save his life. I am such an animal person. So, I thought this article was pretty awesome. I have 7 dogs, and I don't think any of them have the ability to dial 911. If that dog wasn't able to call, his owner would have died. Dogs are smart animals. They are truly man's best friends. This dog should be pampered for the rest of his life. =] He is the bomb!

Homecoming 2008

Write a paragraph about Homecoming Week 2008. What was your experience? If you're a Junior or Senior, how did this year compare to last year? Did you go to the parade, game, or dance?

My homecoming week was very memorable. I had a lot of fun. I'm a senior, so this is the last time I get to experience homecoming. My best friend, Laken, was on homecoming court. So, Friday was a very busy day for us. I left school after 2nd block, and went straight to her house to get her ready for the parade. She was beautiful. The parade wasn't as good as previous years, but it was still enjoyable. After the parade we rushed back to Lake's house so I could get her ready for the game. We rode to the game with all of our friends. Half-time was crazy. I was so nervous. Laken won princess =], along with Jaquayla. I cried. Haha. I'm such a loser. Saturday, I didn't go to the dance, neither did Laken. We spent all day getting Maci ready. I was okay with not going. Maci looked beautiful, thanks to me =], which was just as much fun as going to the dance would be. I don't regret anything. I had a great weekend. I spent it with my best friends, and wouldn't change anything.

Love

"It's better to have loved and lost, than to have never loved at all." ~ Alfred Lord Tennyson.

Do you agree? Explain.

I agree strongly with this quote. I definitely think everyone should experience love at some point in their life. If not, you will pretty much be lost. I was in a relationship for 2 years, and experienced the worst heartbreak ever, but i don't regret any of it. Experiencing love, and being loved in return is definitely worth it.

Beijing Baby.

This article was on yahoo news this morning. It follows:
A visitor to Beijing's National "Bird's Nest" Stadium was shocked to find a new-born baby abandoned in one of the venue's toilets, local media reported on Wednesday. The baby, later identified as a girl, was found by a woman around noon on Tuesday at the Bird's Nest, which is currently holding athletics events for the Paralympic Games, the Beijing Times said."The woman told venue staff that there was a newborn baby in the toilet, with blood still on its body," the paper said. Volunteers and staff searched for the mother for two hours to no avail, then sent the baby to a hospital. The baby was in good health and was feeding, the paper said, citing people with knowledge of the situation, but said the whereabouts of the mother remained unclear. Authorities were investigating, the paper said.

What are your thoughts on this article? Why do you think the mother did this? Write at least a 5 sentence paragraph expressing your thoughts.

I really hate to hear things like this. It bothers me so much that someone would do that to a little baby. I'm really glad to know the baby was in good health. The mother should be ashamed. I'm not sure what kind of excuse someone could have for this kind of thing. Maybe she wasn't ready to be a mother. In that case, she shouldn't have put herself in the situation to become pregnant. I can't stand this. A toilet? Why would you leave a baby in a toilet? If you don't want a child take the baby somewhere other than a public restroom. That's ridiculous.

Video Music Awards.

Did you watch the MTV's Video Music Award Show on Sunday? What did you think about Brittney Spears performing? Who was your favorite performer? Do you watch it for the music or just to see what the artists are going to wear or say? If you didn't watch, why not?
I did not get a chance to watch the Video Music Awards Sunday. I was busy all weekend. I have heard a lot about Britney Spears on the news, commenting her on how good she looked. I usually watch the VMA's to see who all will be performing, who will win awards, what celebrities will be introduced, and what everyone wears. It didn't seem like a big deal to me this year, so i didn't really make time to watch it.

Budget Scare

If you haven't heard, your teachers will no longer be able to call in a sub due to budget issues at the Board of Education. Instead, the teachers that are at school will have to cover a teacher's class when a teacher is absent. How do you think this will affect your teachers and you?
I think its ridiculous that teachers aren't allowed to call in subs anymore. Other teachers may have things to do, instead of looking after other classes. I don't understand the budget issues that are happening. I wish someone would let people know whats going on. I know about the subs, but there are also other rumors going around. Some students were saying that many teachers were going to lose their job due to this budget scare. I'm not sure if this is true, which is why the Board needs to clear things up.

Blogging!

So far, how do you like blogging? State your thoughts in at least 2 complete sentences.
I really enjoy blogging. It gives me a chance to express my thoughts on a certain topic. I really like that we do it each morning before class gets started.

Pet Peeve

pet peeve (noun ) (Origination Date: circa 1919 ): a frequent subject of complaint

List 3 of your pet peeves.

  • I can not stand when someone interrupts another person while they are speaking. That drives me crazy.
  • I also can't stand loud obnoxious people. I'm not sure if that's a pet peeve, but it annoys me.
  • I do not like when people don't use the correct grammer. I'm really bad about correcting people when they don't speak correctly. I hate double negatives.

Sarah Palin

Republican presidential nominee John McCain chose Sarah Palin as his running mate last week. What are your thoughts on his choice? How will it affect his campaign? Do you think Hillary Clinton's supporters will be drawn to McCain since Palin is a female?

I think Sarah Palin is going to be an excellent running mate for John McCain. He made a good choice. She is a very smart and strong woman. I don't think it will affect his campaign negatively. A lot of chaos has occurred due to her daughter being pregnant, which is nonsense. I don't think her personal life should be brought into the media. I think a lot of the media is bringing this up to bash Palin, which is extremely dumb. I think many of the women voting will be drawn to Palin because she is a female.

Teen Pregnancy

As everyone has observed, teen pregnancy has been on the rise over the past 2 years. Why do you think this has happened? Is it related to peer pressure? Accidental? Planned?

I have definitely noticed more and more teens becoming pregnant. Last year, it seemed like half of the girls in the school were pregnant. I think most of the pregnancies are accidental. I don't think any teen plans on having a baby in high school. Most sexually active kids do not think about the consequences of having sex. Some of the pregnancies are also due to peer pressure. I don't think getting pregnant in high school is a good idea, but sometimes it just happens by surprise.
